Beaconhouse is the largest privately owned education system of its kind in the world. Established in November 1975 as the Les Anges Montessori Academy for toddlers, Beaconhouse has since grown into a regional network of private schools, institutes, and universities, imparting distinctive and meaningful education to up to 193,000 students from pre-school to post-graduation. Of these students, 82,000 study in the group’s flagship network, the Beaconhouse School System, while the bulk of the remaining students are enrolled at The Educators, a newer school network managed by Beaconhouse.
The Beaconhouse of today is thus much more than just a neighbourhood school. Through distinct and independent divisions in the UK, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Oman, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh, it caters to the education and training needs of a large and diverse group of individuals of varying ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and nationalities, with its activities extending beyond education in some countries.
Throughout its history, Beaconhouse has laid unparalleled emphasis on the development of human capital. From its early association in the 1980s with The Moray House Institute of Education in Edinburgh, to its current partnerships with the Universities of Bradford and Exeter and the College of St Mark and St John, Beaconhouse has institutionalised in-service teacher education like no other school. Today, more than half its 4,500 teachers have internationally recognised teaching certificates while the rest are enrolled in a permanent in-service teacher education program. Finally, senior academic officers from Beaconhouse proceed to the UK every year to pursue Master’s degrees in Education and Professional Development.
