  The TNS Experience

The vision of a dynamic learning environment at TNS was heavily influenced by the learning philosophies of many of the speakers at the first-ever international conference on education in Pakistan.  ‘Towards 2035: The School of Tomorrow’, hosted by the Beaconhouse Group in 2005, addressed the changing role of education and the nature of schools over the next 30 years and beyond.  TNS Beaconhouse formally commenced classes on 10 September 2007 at the crossroads of Lahore’s Jail Road and Main Boulevard and the overwhelming response to the original TNS has since led to the establishment of a new cutting edge campus in Defence Phase V.

Following a rigorous 3-year accreditation process, in line with its commitment to provide an innovative and robust educational pathway for its students, TNS has accredited as Lahore's first International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.  Currently, it is authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme, providing an exciting and challenging new education option for students in Classes 6 to 10, with plans to extend to the IB Diploma (equivalent to A Levels) in the near future.

The educational experience at TNS revolves around project-based learning (PBL) or, simply, ‘learning by doing’.  There is a common misconception that PBL precludes the teaching of ‘regular’ subjects.  In fact, it is only the way in which these subjects are delivered that is different, not the content that is taught.

TNS has a unique and distinctive academic choice.  The broad spectrum of curricula blends project-based learning with the Reggio Emilia Approach, and incorporates aspects of the English National Curriculum for Nursery to Class 5, adapted as necessary to prepare the ground for the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate.

While we will follow the IB MYP framework for Classes 6 to 10, the final assessment will be the IGCSE exam, which is the international equivalent of Cambridge O Levels.  All our students will appear for this exam as an entry point into the IB Diploma or, if they so choose, the CIE A Levels.

The IB requires students to think critically and solve complex problems.  Such a system is ideally suited to students who have been engaged in project-based learning which develops the critical and reflective skills and lateral thinking required to excel at the IB Diploma.

Side by side with this strong and distinctive academic choice, our inherent respect for our national Pakistani values, our responsibility towards our environment and community, and a meaningful, thoughtful approach to our international positioning are embedded in our inclusive, holistic and globally-aware school.
